At 3:04 a.m., police responded to the 700 block of Sanford Avenue and found a man who had been shot, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said.

While the man was being transported to a nearby hospital, the private vehicle he was in crashed into another car and then struck a light pole and transformer, overturning on its side, Fragé said.

Firefighters removed the gunshot victim from the vehicle and he was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and is in stable condition, Fragé said. The car crash resulted in a temporary power outage at Abinger Place from Silver Street so South Orange Avenue, Fragé said.

Two other people inside the vehicle were taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

The incident remains under investigation, Fragé said.
